Rutherglen Lawn Tennis Club
​Overtoun Courts Proposal

Due to increasing membership, RLTC are hoping to lease
an area of green space in Overtoun Park from South Lanarkshire Council. This area is the open green space next to the BMX track.

Being 'guardians' of the park, Friends of Overtoun Park are representing
the views of the many park users. We are asking park users to complete our survey or to leave comments on the website.  This will enable Friends of Overtoun Park to represent the views of all park users.

The Facts

  • The development will have 4 tennis courts, and 2 paddle ball courts
  • There will be 2 containers in the building, one on top of the other, to house a café and toilets,
  • It will take over half of the open green space next to the BMX track – visit the area to see it marked out.
  • Trees will have to be chopped down
  • The building will be over 2 stories high at its peak.
  • Courts will be available for non-members to pay to play on at selected times. These times are at the discretion of the tennis club.
  • Café and toilets will be open to the public
  • The courts will be open from 9am till 10pm.
  • There will be some light pollution from the internal and external lighting
  • Parking issues in Overtoun Drive and Johnston Drive.
  • This green space is used by fitness groups, football teams, youth groups, teenagers, dog walkers and families.
  • More and more of the local community are using the park due to Covid restrictions.
