40 brave souls came for a ‘Stroll in the Park’ and braved the Scottish summer weather. They only got wet once during the walk and were rewarded with a medal at the end!! Thanks to their generosity we raised £114 for Barnardos – thank you so much! The children made the most of their day; a group played football, younger ones played in the bouncy castle and had their faces painted.
The main play area in Overtoun park will NOT be removed by the council. There has been some confusion as Overtoun Park has been mentioned at council meetings and in the Reformer. This has arisen as there were originally 2 play parks in Overtoun. Overtoun South is the main, large, fenced play area, and Overtoun North is where the wooden train and see saw used to be. It is Overtoun Park North that has been referred to in these meetings and was pin pointed for removal. However, one of the first actions by FOP was to have this play area removed as it was so dangerous to children. Thank you to everyone for their concern and support. We urge you to contact all local Councillors and express your concern about the loss of ANY play parks. Children need somewhere to play.
Thanks to the 52 adults and children who turned up to clean the park. What a job they did!!! The park looked fantastic and we had over 30 bags full of litter and rubbish. A big thank you to the 48th Glasgow Scout Group and Burnside Girl Guides who did a sterling job – well done! Look out for our next one in the Autumn.
The park looked amazing! The blanket of snow subdued every sound and it was so peaceful
After a busy year, we are having a little time off to enjoy the snow! Our next meeting will be held on Monday 7th February 2011 at 7.30pm in ‘The Meeting Place’, Stonelaw Parish Church. Everyone is welcome – come along to find out what we do.
Now that we are constituted and can apply for grants, we hope to improve the play area, do some planting and regenerate the BMX track. Come along to any of the meetings on the first Monday of every month to give us your opinion.
In the meantime, Merry Christmas to all and a big thank you to all those that have supported Friends of Overtoun Park over the last 2 years.
